Babs picked her outfit carefully for the first day of the tournament. She didn’t want to appear to have too much money, so she skipped the Donna Karan outfit, but she also didn’t want to appear too white trashy, so she left behind her short-shorts and tank top. Instead, she chose a pair of white slacks and a bright blue blouse. She’d been told that blue was her best color.
For Chrissakes, she was actually nervous! She who had spent her entire adult life, and most of her teenage years, seducing men. She was nervous about meeting strangers. Unbelievable. If she had any smarts, she’d stop being such a sissy and simply tackle her fear like everything else. Head on.
Babs grabbed her mini-bag and headed for the car, toting her cooler with containers of orange juice. Jesse didn’t have to know she had spiked them with vodka. She had to have something to get her through the day. The soda from the snack bar wasn’t going to cut it. Not all damn day.
When she arrived at the bowling alley, it was still an hour before the registration officially started, but the parking lot was already half full with everything from Hummers to Toyotas to Chevys. Great. That left her no time to prepare. She sighed and got out of the car. Sooner started, sooner done.
A huge sign titled ‘PERFECT SCORE BOWLING TOURNAMENT’ hung on the front of the alley. ‘Welcome Competitors’ sat below the tournament name. Babs snorted. Welcome, indeed. She was the welcome wagon and damned if she didn’t need a swig of orange juice already.
She noticed the sound of dozens of unfamiliar voices first. It was like a bee hive, buzzing constantly, but with no real distinguishable singular voice. She took a deep breath and headed in. Jesse had accomplished a miracle at the Starlite. It sparkled and shone from every nook and cranny. Every chair was new, every table clean, and sparkling glass ashtrays sat where aluminum predecessors had once lurked. The carpets had been professionally cleaned and the front desk had a new countertop. She could swear even the bowling shoes had new laces. He had worked wonders to get it ready for the tournament.
Babs smiled at the sight and walked toward the long folding table with the sign ‘REGISTRATION DESK’ on it. That must be her post. Marlene appeared from behind the snack bar and hurried over. She cut her hair a week before and was still nervous about how it looked. Not that Babs could pick on her about it -she was nervous about talking to people!
“Morning!” Marlene called with a big grin.
“Good morning,” Babs replied as she set her cooler down beneath the table.
“Ready?”
Babs shrugged her shoulders. “I guess so. Not sure if I’ll be such a goodwill ambassador, but I can tell people what to do.”
Marlene laughed and gave her a quick hug and headed off. “You’ll be fine. Just be nice.”
“Hey! I’m always nice!” Babs called after her and sat down. Jesse had already explained what she needed to do. She’d help get the registration lists and score sheets together. Lord, she even helped with the scheduling. Marlene was bowling with a man in the couples tournament that she didn’t know. Babs had also bullied Veronica into bowling ladies doubles just to get her to do something besides the ordinary.
The moment she sat down a large Starbucks coffee was set down in front of her. Babs smiled up at Jesse.
“Thank you, Jesse! How did you know?”
He almost looked like he blushed. “I asked Marlene. I cain’t pay you, Babs, but I wanted you to know how much I appreciate your help.”
Babs’ smiled grew wider. “You’re welcome, Jesse. I like to help out my friends.”
He patted her on the shoulder. “I’ll be over at the front desk, so if you need me, just holler.”
She nodded and he half-jogged back to the desk to take care of the three people already waiting. So many strangers, so many new faces. Babs was watching all of them, knowing she’d speak to every one of them sometime over the next four days.
That’s when she saw him.
He wasn’t overly tall; in fact, he couldn’t be taller than five foot eight. His hair was black as pitch and from behind, his body was perfect. Wide shoulders with firm muscles topped a tapering back and long arms. The biceps and triceps were well defined and winked at her from beneath his short-sleeved red shirt. His black trousers hugged an incredible ass that made her mouth water. It was more than enough to fill her hands. She wanted to bite it and see if it was as firm as it looked.
His legs were obviously well muscled and his stance was one of an athlete, one well used to his body, with fluid movements. As he spoke to a teammate, a man wearing an identical red shirt, he gestured and she got a better view of his magnificent arms. A hiss escaped her mouth as a shiver wormed its way up to her pussy.
Perfect. He was perfect.
Babs had no idea how long she stared, but it was long enough for the other man to notice. He smiled at her and tipped his head in her direction to the man that her body longed to explore. The perfect stranger turned and Babs literally gasped when she saw his face.
Jimmy Tanaka.
