As a writer, I do a lot of research and reading. Not only to verify historical details but to make sure I capture the flavor of the time period. If I’m writing in 1887, it’s much different than 1867 or 1837.

One of the things I carefully research is weapons. It’s important not to give someone a gun that didn’t exist for 20 years. LOL. However, I’ve never personally shot any kind of gun.

That’s going to change this Sunday. Thanks to a good friend at my RWA chapter, I discovered a local event given by women for women. I’m going to learn how to shoot four different weapons, including a pistol, two kinds of rifle and a shotgun.

Look out world, I’m making it real!

Honestly I totally feel as though the more educated you are, the better you can handle real life and fiction writing. Not only will it lend authenticity to my writing but it’s going to be fun. I’m even going to buy a t-shirt. :)
