Hurricane Earl has decided he really likes North Carolina.
Stupid Earl.
FEMA was there as of Monday and now they’re evacuating Ocracoke Island already. Get ready for them to evacuate more people who are at the beach. Residents are probably used to it, it’s part of what you agree to if you buy a house on the NC coast. But it really sucks for people on vacation, which I’m sure there are lots of them. It’s Labor Day weekend coming up, so yeah, lots.
NC has always attracted hurricanes for whatever reason. I’m sure my DH would tell me it had to do with the currents and the way the ocean floor was shaped, etc.
All I know is Earl is ruining Labor Day weekend for people in NC, and really up the East Coast including our Virginia neighbors. Hurricane watches abound. I read this is the largest hurricane to set its sights on the East Coast since 1991. This is not good y’all.
If you’re on the NC coast or up the eastern seaboard, get your hurricane preparedness kit together (yes, we do that here too even though we’re 150 miles inland) and batten down the hatches. Stay safe!

Actually, the thing with North Carolina is how it juts a bit from the profile of the East coast–if you draw a line, a segment from a circle, from Miami to say, New York, you’ll see that NC sticks out into the circle. Ergo, storms that skim Florida and most of the coast on their way North tend to hit NC.

I still think hurricanes deliberately target NC. We’re just such a beautiful state, they’re jealous.

Best wishes to everyone in NC. Honestly I’m glad I don’t live on the East Coast anymore. Now I just need to watch out for giant snow storms in CO.
