Pink Glove Dance

A friend of mine forwarded this link to a YouTube video for the “Pink Glove Dance”. I’ve watched it twice already and it’s completely awesome. I’m posting this in honor of Donna, who we lost August 1, 2009.

Please forward this in honor of all the women we know and all we have lost.

Happy Friday!

A long and busy week is coming to an end, or sort of anyway. I’ll be busy this weekend but my choice busy, not work busy, y’know?

After taking DS #2 to his Saturday activities, I’m going to Barnes & Noble as one of my errands. I’ve decided to take the plunge and buy a Nook!

If you have one, let me know what your favorite accessory is. I love the colored backs, thinking about getting the pinkish one. Too bad they don’t have a purple one. I’ll also need a protective case.

Then I’m gonna buy me some books!! I just finished a nice time travel by Veronica Wolff, Lord of the Highlands, and I’m looking forward to downloading some new ebooks to fawn over on my new nook.

I’ll be a happy girl. Recs for books, anyone?

Love the feel

Of driving with the windows down in the car. It’s finally cool enough to roll them windows down and let the wind whip.

It drives my DH nuts.

It makes my mom cringe.

I LOVE IT!

I might be part-canine, but I just totally love the feeling. My hair flying every which way, the steady whoosh of the wind around me. Heaven, I tell ya, heaven.

Senseless

Last week on the way to work, my DH was passed by some fool in a big dualie truck going about 80 on a 2 lane road. Minutes later, the fool had wrapped the truck around a tree.

DH stopped and checked on the man, found he had a pulse, and then waited for the emergency services to arrive. Unfortunately, we found out two days later, the man died from his injuries even though he was air-lifted from the scene. It was one of the worst accidents my husband has seen, and he’s seen a fatal one.

Such a senseless, stupid way to die. The facts came out that this 28 year old man (so very young) was doing 90 MPH (!) and on the phone with his wife. Not sure if they were arguing or what, but he obviously wasn’t paying attention to what he was doing.

He hit the ditch, crossed the road, went over two stone walls, hit another ditch, then wrapped that enormous truck around a tree. It was in a V shape when they finally pulled it off. Parts were scattered all across this little old lady’s lawn and every piece of bark was stripped on that tree for about 10 feet.

The last thing his wife heard? “Oh my God.” It makes my heart hurt to think of what she’s going through so I’m sending her some healing vibes.

Senseless, senseless, senseless. Please drive safe y’all. I’d hate to lose you.

Women only train in Indonesia

A news article caught my eye this morning – there is now a “women-only” train car in Indonesia. Could be a good thing or a bad thing, right?

First, as a bad thing, it’s segregating women from men. Again. I know their beliefs (it’s a mostly Muslim country) have different values than I do as does their culture. However, it’s considered a modernized country and women don’t always wear the traditional headscarves, they show their legs, etc. So, it’s still keeping the sexes apart, treating them differently… but now onto the good part of it.

But as a good thing, in the article, this young women mentions no more ogling, no more GROPING, on a women only car. Groping? Damn, I’d have had a problem taking that train and not getting arrested for kicking the crap out of some man who groped me.

It sounds like a nice ride actually. No smelly men, no farting or burping and thankfully no ball scratching. I think I would take that women-only car if only for a brief reprieve during a commute from the men that infest trains. Yes, I’ve done the train commute before in NY and I know exactly how the trains smell.

What do y’all think about this women-only train car?

It’s Wednesday?

Sheesh, where did the beginning of the week go? I am surprised to find out it’s Wednesday. I’ve been busy doing edits (done!) and writing (not done!), plus oh yeah, real life and real job, that I lost track of time.

After my Delta fiasco, and the shocking stunt by the JetBlue flight attendant last week, I saw another piece on the news last night on a Southwest flight.

Apparently a 13 month old baby was crying on the flight, as they often do, and the mother slapped the baby! The flight attendant took the baby from the mother until the flight landed and the police could be called. And thank God she did, but the parents were not charged. Public child abuse and nothing was done? That just sounds wrong to me.

However, the incident just proves that Southwest is the airline to fly. Rock on SWA!!

I’m off to make coffee and get to work. Happy hump day y’all!

Delta is on my list

So, my 14 YO was up in CT visiting his grandparents for two weeks. He was due to fly back Monday on a 2:46 direct flight from LaGuardia to Raleigh. Since he’s 14, he’s considered a minor and therefore, they do a shakedown and charge me $100 PER FLIGHT for him to fly alone.

Ridiculous, eh? It gets better.

I happen to look at 1 pm to see what gate he’s flying into and notice the flight was canceled. WTF? I had a moment of panic and looked up his specific ticket and it shows him on a flight at 5:42!

I called him on his cell and sure enough they were nearly to the airport since they had to check him in and get through security, etc. The news they had an extra 3 hours was not what they wanted to hear.

I stayed at work until after 5, then went to return a few things and arrived at the airport at 7, 45 minutes before his flight was to arrive. I was checking the flight status on my phone when I realized it still said “Awaiting Takeoff”.

Huh?

Oh yes, indeedy, his flight was supposed to leave at 5:42, but at 7:00 they were still SITTING ON THE TARMAC. I about blew a gasket at Delta. The flight didn’t take off from NY until 7:17.

Y’all, I was seriously pissed. I could not believe how badly Delta handled all of this. First, they didn’t notify me of the flight change for an unaccompanied minor, then they leave 1 1/2 hours late.

Here’s the worst part. The Delta gate agent didn’t ask my MIL to stay and wait for the plane to take off. She was home (1 1/2 hours away) before his plan left the ground. The gate agents make me stay until they give me the all clear on any other airline. Not Delta though. My MIL doesn’t know any different so she couldn’t have known she was supposed to stay.

My son’s plan could have turned around and returned to the gate and he would have been stranded in Queens! The good news is, he did arrive safely in Raleigh and after waiting 30 minutes for his luggage (thank you again Delta), and a brief stop at Chik Fil-A (he hadn’t eaten dinner), we made it home at 9:45 pm.

Today’s rant over. I’m not flying Delta again.
