I’ve got a lot on my plate with deadlines and my real life so I haven’t been online much. You’ll see me poke my head in over the next several weeks but I’ve got lots to take care of so I can’t play too much. I’ve got some adorable pictures for y’all of some funny Halloween costumes on pets that I’ll post the next three days for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

You might be surprised to learn my all-time favorite writer is Stephen King. The man can weave a story so intricately, characterize so amazingly, he generally has me completely sucked into his stories like a vortex. I have read every book he’s written, including the Richard Bachman books that I’m not too fond of. Some books were amazing, some were good, others were okay. With his newest release, Lisey’s Story, Stephen is being called a romance writer! I kid you not, he’s put some sincere romance in this scary tale that surprises some, but not me. Remember, I’ve read everything. He even put himself out there for us to examine in his book On Writing (which I recommend for any writer to read). I looked on Amazon and found a review by Nora Roberts. “Stephen King hooked me about three decades ago with that sharply faceted, blood-stained jewel, The Shining…But with Lisey’s Story, King has accomplished one more feat. He broke my heart. Holy cow! This review by a woman I respect tells me that my predeliction for enjoying Stephen King is justified. I absolutely have to get a copy of Lisey’s Story. I also found an interesting article or two about Lisey’s Story from the Associated Press. If you’ve never read Stephen King, I’m going to recommend that you do. The gunslinger series, The Dark Tower, ranks up there with my top SK books (there are seven of them). My all-time favorite SK book is The Stand (I’ve read it at least four times and it’s 1200 pages long). I could sit here all day and list which ones I like, but really though I just want to pay homage to an amazing storyteller. If you have the time, pick one up and read a master writer. The man can write a story, and apparently romance too. Can’t wait to get my paws on Lisey’s Story. Wednesday, October 25th, 2006
Sad news in the realm of Samhain Publishing, one of the editors and writer Teri Smith passed away yesterday. Shocking to all and so unexpected. She was funny and sweet and although I didn’t know her well, I am terribly saddened by the news. While her family and friends recover from the shock of losing her, I’m sending all my healing thoughts to them. That brings me to the point of today’s blog post. Life is so very short, I don’t want to waste any of it on bullshit and pettiness. Every day should be treasured like the precious gift it is. Never miss the opportunity to tell someone you love them, spend time with friends, and celebrate every minute of every day. Go to someone’s blog and make them smile, let someone in line in front of you at the store, share a treat with a friend, or simply hold your lover’s hand for a while. Do something without expecting anything in return. Carpe diem, folks. Seize the day! Go out there and make it count. Tuesday, October 24th, 2006
Yep, that’s right. Samhain authors are invading the Novelspotters Yahoo loop today. Just look at this line-up! All times are EST. 9:00 AM Kate Davies Woohoo! You’ll catch me at 7 pm where I’ll be giving exclusive excerpts of my newest Malloy book, The Gift, due to hit the electronic shelves November 21. Sunday, October 22nd, 2006
I saw this in the newspaper yesterday… Men of Mortuaries calendar. Hmmm…. okay, so it’s about beefcake morticians. Yeah, really! http://www.menofmortuaries.com/ Apparently they have t-shirts and a calendar. Ya know I’ve seen some really good beefcake calendars. Actually I’m giving on away to one of my Sexy Spurs subscribers this month (Studs and Spurs). But this? I think maybe if they weren’t lowering a coffin in the ground it might make it more appealing. Apparently the money raised goes to a foundation to assist people being treated for breast cancer – a great cause. What do y’all think? Saturday, October 21st, 2006
Final stop on the October book signing is today. I’ll be at the at Waldenbooks in Durham signing copies of The Bounty and The Prize. I’ll have my bookmarks and treats for anyone that comes by. No tricks I promise. If you’re in the area, please come by Northgate Mall and say howdy! Friday, October 20th, 2006
This is pretty cool, the All About Romance site is doing a series of mini-polls. The current one is to vote for your favorite sexy mainstream, erotic romance, and e-book titles! Here are the details from the AAR site: We are conducting the following Top Ten polls over the next year, and through October 29th are polling for Mainstream Sexy Titles, Erotic Romance Titles, and E-Books. We will not accept titles of mainstream print-published books that are also available in e-book format (ie, the e-book version of Sabrina Jeffries’ After the Seduction), but we will accept e-books from “small” publishers that may also be published in print format, such as those from Ellora’s Cave. The polls close at midnight, October 29th, so be sure to vote as soon as possible by visiting http://www.likesbooks.com/minipolls.html. I’m off to vote. Thursday, October 19th, 2006
